Risk Management and Value Management are each extensively represented in literature. However, approaches dealing with their interconnections and concerning non-financial business units are scarce. For example, the allocation of risk limits to business units is mainly discussed in the banking or insurance sector in respect of financial risk measures such as the Value at Risk of assets. On the other hand, value based key figures such as EVA, CFA or CFROI, which are widespread in the industrial sector, are risk adjusted only on a highly aggregated ?level, e.g. by WACC on the enterprise or unit level. Therefore, a new approach need to propose based on downside risk measures for the allocation of risk limits to non-financial business units in regard to value-based management and for the risk reporting of value based, risk adjusted key figures.

Dr. Markus ILG is a professor of management accounting in Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences (Dornbirn, Austria) and also the Program Director Business. He received his Ph.d in University of Hohenheim (Stuttgart, Germany), 2005.He is the member of International Controller Association (ICV). He got the “Best-Paper-Award” of “Activity Driven Budgeting of Software Projects” in the International Journal of Human Capital and Information Technology Professionals together with Alexander Baumeister, the “competitive paper” of “Cost Management of Software Developments - an Activity-Based Approach” in 2004, and the First prize for best graduation at University of Hohenheim sponsored by Landesbank Baden-Württemberg in 1997. His research area focused on financial management and control. Dr. Markus has published many high quality papers in top journals and proceeding of international conference, such as International Journal of Information Technology Project Management, International Journal of Human Capital and Information Technology Professionals etc., and books like “Aktuelle Entwicklungen in Controlling, Finance & Strategy” in 2011, 2012, 2013.
