摘要:ConnectedVehicle (CV) systems are expected to enhance a wide range of safety, mobilityand environmental aspects to highway traffic. A critical research need lies in clarifying thecause-and-effect mechanism between the CV information and driver behaviors andsubsequent adaptive resiliency of improvement in operation, safety, andemissions reductions. A novel approach is hence created via developing thesimulation-based tool, Synthetic AdaptiveV2X Effect (SAVE) Estimator, to explore the interactions between the CVsystem and transportation performance. This presentation will introduce thespeaker’s current research on identifying factors contributing to the CVadaptive effect on traffic operation, safety, and environment. The frameworkand associated modeling methodology for the development of the SAVE Estimator will be detailed with aproof-of-concept study of the CV adaptive resilience at a realistic freewayconnecting with two ramps. The SAVEEstimator is planned to be integrated in the future into the GeographicalInformation System (GIS)-based Air Impact Relating Scenario-based UrbanSettings and Transportation Assets In Network” (AIR-SUSTAIN) system,which is being developed via a grant funded by US Environmental ProtectionAgency (US EPA), an integrated transportation conformity analysis tool. ?

?Dr. Heng Wei is aProfessor of Transportation Systems and Engineering, and Director of AdvancedResearch in Transportation Engineering & Systems (ART-Engines) LaboratoryatThe University of Cincinnati (UC). He has a wide spectrum of research interestsand expertise in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). ?Since hisfaculty appointment at UC, he has secured 32 research projects(including 10 Co-PI projects) fromODOT, FHWA, NSF, EPA, OTC, NEXTRANS Center, and UC URC/FDC. Hisresearch has resulted in 160 peer-reviewed papers and 9 professionalbooks/chapters. He has been honored with UC College of Engineering and AppliedScience Distinguished Researcher Award for Excellence in Research andEngineering Master Educator Award for Excellence in Teaching. In addition, heis a member of numerous outstanding professional committees, such as TRB AND20,ABJ70 and ABE90 Committees, ASCE T&DI Committees on Advanced TechnologyCommittee and Transportation Safety and on Sustainability and Environment. Heis the Chair of IEEE ITSS Travel Information and Traffic Management Committeeand Immediate Past President of Chinese Overseas Transportation Association (COTA).In addition, he has successfully organized or chaired 27 internationalconferences/sessions and symposiums.
