報告摘要：

Modern statistical methods provide a powerful fool to address complex statistical issues arising in clinical research and practice. Harnessing the power of such methods can be quite a challenging task, even for professional biostatisticians. ?Too often, a range of competing methods is available and it can be quite difficult to determine the approach most appropriate to address the issues at hand, especially when one needs to defend the approach used, as is often the case in grant applications and manuscript publications. ?Many statistical models may seem quite similar, but can actually produce quite different results with completely different interpretations. ?Also, as statistical packages become ever “user-friendly”, it is tempting to use them without having a good understanding of the underlying statistical methods as well as the quality of the implementation of the methods by the packages. ?In this talk, we discuss a range of popular statistical methods for clinical research and appropriate contexts for their applications using data from both real and simulated studies.

報告人簡介

Xinming Tu教授現為University of Rochester生物統計與計算生物學系教授。本科畢業于復旦大學數學系，碩士畢業于Duke University統計與數值分析專業，于1989年獲得Duke University統計與應用數學，于1990—1992年在Harvard School of Public Health生物統計系從事博士后研究。Xinming Tu教授主要從事生物統計學、醫學統計學、應用統計以及統計計算等方面的研究。他在本學科重要學術期刊上共發表論文200余篇，其中多篇論文發表在國際頂級期刊如Journal of the American Statistical Association, Biometrika, The American Journal of Psychiatry上。?
