Abstract:
This talk is concerned with fundamentalaspects of Intelligent Pattern Recognition (IPR)and applications. It basically includes thefollowing: Basic Concept of Automata,Grammars, Trees, Graphs and Languages.Ambiguity and its Importance, Brief Overviewof Artificial Intelligence (AI), Brief Overviewof Pattern Recognition (PR), What isIntelligent Pattern Recognition (IPR)? Interactive Pattern Recognition Concept,Importance of Measurement and Ambiguity,How it works, Modeling and Simulation,Basic Principles and Applications to ComputerVision, Security, Road Sign Design, SaferTraffic and Robot Driving with Vision,Ambiguous (Dangerous and Bad) design ofRoad Signs vs Unambiguous (Good) RoadSigns, How to Disambiguate an AmbiguousRoad Sign? And more Examples andApplications of Learning and Greener Worldusing Computer Vision. Finally, some futureresearch directions are discussed.

Prof. Patrick S.P. Wang, PhD. Fellow,IAPR, ISIBM, WASE, and IEEE & ISIBMOutstanding Achievement Awardee, isTenured Full Professor, NortheasternUniversity, USA, iCORE (Informatics Circleof Research Excellence) Visiting Professor,University of Calgary, Canada, Otto-Von-Guericke Distinguished Guest Professor,Magdeburg University, Germany, ZijiangVisiting Chair, ECNU, Shanghai, China, aswell as honorary advisory professor of severalkey universities in China, including SichuanUniversity, Xiamen University, East ChinaNormal University, Shanghai, and GuangxiNormal University, Guilin.
Prof. Wang received his BSEE fromNational Chiao Tung University (JiaotongUniversity), MSEE from National TaiwanUniversity, MSICS from Georgia Institute ofTechnology, and PhD, Computer Sciencefrom Oregon State University.Dr. Wang has published over 26 books, 200technical papers, 3 USA/European Patents, inPR/AI/TV/Cybernetics/Imaging, and iscurrently founding Editor-in-Chief of IJPRAI(International Journal of PatternRecognition and Artificial Intelligence) , andBook Series of MPAI, WSP. In addition to histechnical interests, Dr. Wang also published aprose book, “Harvard Meditation Melody”《哈佛冥想曲》and many articles and poems regarding Du Fu and Li Bai’s poems,Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart andTchaikovsky’s symphonies, and Bizet, Verdi,Puccini and Rossini’s operas.
