Milhar Fuazudeen is a marine engineer with over 15 years’ experience at sea. He is an alumnus of the Universities of Sri Lanka, New South Wales, Australia and Warsash Maritime Academy of Solent University, Southampton, United Kingdom, and is a Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, Incorporated Engineer and Incorporated Marine Engineer.

Milhar joined IMO in 1997, and is the Head of the Maritime Training and Human Element Section in the Maritime Safety Division of IMO. He is the Secretary of the STW Sub-Committee and was the Secretary of the Human Element Working Group. His work includes implementation of the ?STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, the 1995 STCW-F Convention, the ISM Code and other Human Element-related issues.

Milhar has conducted: STCW-related seminars’ workshops and training courses for trainers, examiners and assessors and on maritime English and Quality Standard Systems; needs assessments and advisory missions to IMO Member States related to the implementation of the STCW and STCW-F Conventions; and training courses for auditors under the Voluntary IMO Member State Audit Scheme and the ISM Code. He is also a visiting lecturer at the World Maritime University in Malmoe.
