摘要：
為肯定過去所做的努力并展望未來，我們需要對過去有一個了解。本演講分三個部分。第一部分，對海事英語的歷史進行規(guī)劃。在過去一個世紀(jì)中，一些人積極主動地識到有效溝通在海運業(yè)中有迫切的需求，我們也將重溫他們做出的預(yù)測和建議。第二部分，更新并描述在本世紀(jì)中十六年以來實際發(fā)生的事件，還包括其一般趨勢，以及所有遇到的興趣領(lǐng)域和問題。還著重認(rèn)識了國際海事組織的影響力帶來的沖擊，對國際研究項目進行評論，展現(xiàn)當(dāng)代教學(xué)方法的運用，指出開發(fā)出的新資源，并解釋了IMLA-IMEC的擴展內(nèi)容。第三部分，通過對尋求問題“海事英語——未來的方向何在？”的答案，批判性地分析當(dāng)前技術(shù)發(fā)展是否使得人類語言交流變得多余，從而展望未來。所演示的規(guī)劃圖是為了提出更高的教學(xué)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)和通過IMLA-IMEC成員的合作努力進行學(xué)習(xí)，同時建立一個更全面的海事英語框架。此外，演講者還考慮了海事英語講師的專業(yè)形象，以及海事英語教學(xué)質(zhì)量管理體系是否可取性，價值性，甚至其必要性。

Abstract
To appreciate the present, and anticipate the future, we need to have an understanding of the past. Thus, this presentation has three parts.PartOne maps the history of Maritime English and revisits the predictions and recommendations of those who were proactive in recognising the critical need of?effective communication?within the maritime industry during the past century. Part Two, is an update, an account of what has actually happened during the 16years of the present century and includes the general trends, areas of interest and issues encountered. In particular, the impact of IMO’s influence is recognised, international research projects are commented upon, the application of contemporary teaching methods are presented, the development of new resources are noted and the expansion of IMLA-IMEC is explained. Part Three looks to the future by seeking an answer to the question "Maritime English –?What Course Ahead?"and critically examines whether present technological developments are capable of making human linguistic exchanges redundant.A road map is presented with the intention of promoting enhanced standards of teaching and learning through the co-operative efforts of IMLA-IMEC members while at the same time establishing a more comprehensive Maritime English framework.Further, the author/presenter considers the professional profile of Maritime English instructors and the question whether a Quality Management System for Maritime English instruction is desirable, useful or even necessary.

專家介紹：
Clive Cole，世界海事大學(xué)副教授，1984起，他受聘于隸屬國際海事組織的世界海事大學(xué)，撰寫了45篇關(guān)于海事英語、海事英語教學(xué)及相關(guān)學(xué)科的論文，在國際專業(yè)領(lǐng)域里得到了廣泛認(rèn)可。此外，他還是國際海事講師協(xié)會的名譽秘書和IMLA國際海事英語會議的主席；自2011年起，擔(dān)任世界海事大學(xué)馬爾默畢業(yè)典禮的總指導(dǎo)。
