Market globalisation has extended the supply chains and made its operations as well as manufacturing more complex. Optimising these operations has become a great challenge for many businesses. Various approaches and strategies have been adopted to increase the efficiency of supply chain operations, and nevertheless, the role of modern technology is one of the keys to success. This talk will focus on the promising technology, radio-frequency identification (RFID), and the potential of its application to advance supply chain operations/practices, so that businesses can manage their supply chains more efficiently and cost-effectively. A series of research and commercial projects undertaken within the Centre of Excellence for Supply Chain Improvement at the University of Derby (UK) will also be introduced to illustrate our approaches to maximise supply chain efficiency.

主講教授:
Prof Lim obtained his PhD in Manufacturing Systems from University of Exeter (UK) and B.Eng (Hons) in Manufacturing Engineering from University of Liverpool (UK). He is currently Professor of Supply Chain and Logistics Operations and Head of Centre for Supply Chain Improvement at University of Derby (UK). His role is to build a centre of excellence in logistics and supply chain, leading a team of academics to conduct applied research and to engage with companies to address business challenges. Prior to this, he was Founding Head of RFID Advanced Research and Lecturer in Logistics at Aston University (UK).
His research expertise is in the area of radio-frequency identification technology (RFID), artificial intelligence, lean & agile manufacturing, sustainable supply chain management and logistics, responsive & reconfigurable manufacturing and supply chain, meta-heuristics, cost and system optimisation, and system modelling and simulation.
