主要內容： Digitalization is pushing the maritime industry beyond its traditional limits and provides many new opportunities to enhance the productivity, efficiency, and sustainability of logistics. We currently note that dramatic situations, such as a major pandemic, act as fire accelerant and quickly lead to liquidity shortages and a high cost pressure. While struggling to survive, affected companies realize that digitalization and digital platforms are crucial in improving processes, reducing costs and increasing liquidity. This lecture will explore key areas and topics of digitalization and digital transformation for supporting a better planning and management within and between seaports as well as regarding hinterland activities. Information management and data science, as a practice of extracting insights from operational data, assist in reducing uncertainties using predictions, and help to identify and understand causes of inefficiencies, disruptions, and anomalies in intra- and inter-organizational terminal operations.

He is also a lecturer at the University of Hamburg (Germany). He holds a M.Sc. in Information Systems and a PhD from the University of Hamburg. In the last years he published more than 40 scientific articles and books in the areas of logistics, cloud computing, operational research and data science and served as guest editor for several journals. Moreover, he consulted two DAX-10 companies (SAP, Deutsche Telekom) and companies in the logistics and transportation sector, especially in the maritime industry.
